Ladies, have you recently moved to the Slidell Area? Are you looking for friends in your new home town? Are you looking for "a life"? If so, you are invited to join the Slidell Newcomer's Club. We have something to do almost every day of the week. The hard part is choosing.
Our primary interest is friendship. We are the new friends you are looking for - the reason to get out of the house when you can't stand to unpack one more moving box We offer new members of our community the opportunity to make new friends, discover the area we all love and enjoy all it has to offer in whatever time the members spend here.
This non-profit organization, formed in 1962 , is devoted to welcoming new residents to the community and providing a new "life" with shared interests and lasting friendships. Although membership is generally for women, husbands are included in many of the social activities.
Our members come from all over the world and have settled here either for a short time or for a lifetime. Our Club has helped ease the transition from another state or country.
Newcomers has a wide range of groups to encourage members to make friends and become involved in the community. There is something for everyone. This is where you meet someone who maybe your new best friend for life.
Except for the Garden Club, there are no extra dues for these gatherings. The only requirement is a willingness to meet new people and take part in fun filled activities. Click on Interest Groups and Events to see some of our many activities.
You may attend any or all of the Interest Groups. The Sign up is on a monthly basis and attending does not obligate you to attend every month. This is the best way to get to know the ladies in the Club.
Some of our Interest Groups are: Book Club, Bowling, Bridge, Bunko (several groups), Cooking, Day Trips, Gardening, Pokeno, Scrapbooking, Secret Pals, Shop Til You Drop, Supper Club, Texas Hold 'Em just to name a few.
We have a Mardi Gras Ball during Carnival Season, have a Picnic in the Spring, sponsor an Arts and Crafts show in October, hold a Halloween Party and sometimes a Christmas Party. We also hold an annual Crawfish Boil in April for our members. Click on Events and Activities for more information on each of the fun-filled events.
Newcomers' holds a General Meeting/Luncheon the second Wednesday of every month at 10:45 AM at Pinewood Country Club. We promise an informative meeting with a guest speaker most months, a nice lunch and lots of good company and new friends.
We do require reservations and ask that you call the Reservations Chairman (985-643-5586) the Friday before the luncheon to make or cancel a reservation.
Membership to the Club is $30 annually. Membership entitles you to attend luncheons, Interest Groups, and Club functions. A newsletter is published monthly to keep you of current activities and general membership news. Call our Membership Chair Nelda (985-641-5467) to see about joining us.
